Mediccom is a society created with the aim to provide medical students with experience in learning about medical topics. We have brought schools together to work on projects to present in front of large audiences and in front of a host of medical professionals, teachers and university students.
develop a platform for aspiring medical students to demonstrate understanding of complex issues
raise awareness in a charity-themed correspondence, about the issues that somewhat go unnoticed
equip students with a subset of skills allowing them to further strengthen their medical application
Mediccom is an inter school organisation of aspiring doctors. Within each school pupils work in PBL (Problem Based Learning) groups to create presentations based on scientific and ethical topics that will be covered in university. The best presentation from each school is selected to be presented in front of a judging panel of medical experts. We encourage all attendants to donate to a medical charity that corresponds to the topic of the session.
We feel that there are so many debilitating health conditions that the general public do not know enough about. Such health problems require funding for research, staffing etc and there are multiple charities that campaign for medical causes. Donations made during Mediccom events will go towards a medical charity of our choice that is related to the theme of the event. Join our mailing list to find out which charity we will partner with for our first session!
Students in PBL groups are able to work together in a team, everyone having a specific task like in a hospital. This encourages students to deal with responsibility and allows for efficiency.
Having planned their presentation, they can create their presentation, making sure to cite every source found.
Each student that attends Mediccom will have their presentation displayed to a group of experts, and be criticised by a panel of judges. Each group that presents will earn a certificate of presentation to show their work.
